When Lucy returned back to her home, that morning, her mother was still sleeping, but her father was in the kitchen washing the dishes. (It was around 9:30 a.m.) When Lucy walked in and said hello, her father stopped washing the dishes. Lucy noticed he didn't look too happy. Oh no what did I do this time? Lucy thought. When he turned to face Lucy she felt very weak, she knew whatever she did had to have been bad.
"Lucy," he said with a very serious tone, "I'm very upset at you."
"Why dad? What did I do?" Lucy asked trying to think back to what she did.
"Because your mother really wants you to stay and you can't even respect her wishes!"
"Dad, she had it didn't matter that it was my choice," Lucy quickly added before he say anymore, "I don't wanna stay here. I love it in Tulsa. I invited her to come with me to clear her thoughts but she said no."
"Of course she can't she has to work, and organize your grandma's bills. Why do you wanna go back their do bad? Your family is here not there."
"But my family is there to, my family is my friends too dad!"
"I don't understand you, but if you insist on going don't let me stop you! Your flight is tomorrow. Be ready to leave!"
Lucy ran up to her room before anything else could be said. Why can't they just understand I don't want to be here. I know it's selfish I just don't wanna stay here. I wish Isaac were here! Lucy buried her face into her pillow and shed a few tears. She walked over to her suitcase searching for her poem book. Soon she found it and began to write.
Emptiness
The feeling inside me, The feeling inside you, The space that eats at you when you cry, You scream just so you could hear your voice, The voice that keeps you going, The emptiness, the voice that leads you down the path, But where is the path and where does it lead? Where am I going? Where are you going? Where are we all going? I don't know, but we will know when we get there!
Lucy sighed and closed her poem book. Glancing at her clock it was only almost 11:00. What am I going to do all day? Emily went to some family picnic for the day. Oh great that means I will have to stay here all day. Unless I could take Shadow for a walk. (the family dog) Strangely like she read her mind shadow walked up the stairs and jumped on Lucy's bed.
"Hey girl, you wanna go for a walk"
Shadow started to jump around.
"Alright girl, let's go"
She walked downstairs and grabbed her leash. She notified her father where she was going but he didn't seem to care. She walked out the door and she could barely even see because of the suns blaze that shined in her eyes.
"Stay here girl, I'm going to go grab my sunglasses" With that Lucy ran inside grabbed her glasses and ran back out. Lucy decided to walk up to the park since it's been along time since she's been there.
Lucy smiled when she looked around her old neighborhood. She walked up all the side streets like she always did when she went to Washington Park. When she got there she had to control Shadow because she saw another slightly smaller dog and all Shadow wanted to do was chase it. Shadow put up a good struggle but Lucy kept her grip and dragged the lanky dog to another side of the park. Lucy looked around and couldn't see anybody else for miles, as soon as the other dog and it's owner were no where to be seen. Lucy let Shadow off the leash. Shadow jumped with excitement. Lucy sat in a dry patch of grass under a tree and started to think. She didn't want her father mad at her, yet deep inside she really didn't wanna stay here. See looked over at Shadow to make sure she wasn't doing anything dumb. She giggled when she saw Shadow stuck in a berry bush. She started to yelp. Lucy quickly ran over to her and freed her.
"Silly girl! You never learn do you?" Shadow looked up at Lucy with the most lonesome and pathetic look Lucy had even seen. "Shadow I'm sorry," Lucy bent down to give shadow a hug instead she got a face full of doggie spit. "gross!, well for being a real pain in the butt I'm certainly gonna miss you! Maybe Mom and Dad would let me bring you back? I dunno I'm sure I could convince them. I dunno. Oh let's go it's already 12:30" Lucy said glancing down at her watch.
Lucy made her way home but she decided she would go the long way. She was only about 4 houses down from her house when she heard a familiar voice.
"Hey babe when you'd get back?"
Lucy looked behind her and smiled.
"Wes!!" Lucy greeted him warmly and she threw her arms around him to give him a hug.
"So when did you get back?" Wes asked
"Oh I've been here for a few days, cause well my Grandma passed away,"
"I'm sorry Luce. Well what ya doing wanna come over? I mean we haven't see each other in almost a month"
Lucy thought for a moment, she had had a small crush on Wes before she moved but she had never thought about it. 'I don't really wanna stay home. Well it's not like I'm cheating on Ike if I hang out with another guy'.
"Okie let me just bring Shadow home I'll be up in a few minutes."
"Alright see ya then, oh Mike will probably come up too!"
Lucy replied with an ok as she walked home. She walked in and saw her mom. Lucy felt really bad all of a sudden and went to give her mom a hug.
"Hey mom," she said eagerly to see if she was upset
"Hi dear, where did you go?"
"Oh just took Shadow for a walk. I ran into Wes he invited me up is that ok?"
"Ya sure honey, just don't be gone to long."
"Sure ma don't worry" Lucy said grinning "Hey ma do you think there's anyway I could bring Shadow back with me?"
"No don't be crazy, she's our watchdog." Lucy's mom replied looking strangely at Lucy.
"Oh all right it was just a thought" she said kind of downhearted.
Lucy walked out the door when she heard her mom's voice.
"You know honey I don't see why you couldn't just get your own dog up there."
"Hey you never know, Bye!"
With that Lucy walked down her driveway once more and made her way up to Wes's house. She walked up to the Three family, green and white, and nicely kept house. She opened the door and climbed two flights of stairs and took a deep breathe before she entered the apartment.
