After Lucy hung up the phone she nearly broke down.
"Where the fuck are my ciggerettes!" She got so frustrated she threw the glasses that were in the strainer on the floor. Glass splattered everywhere. Lucy spotted her open pack of Malboro's by the toaster. She lit one and smoked it dry. Lucy sighed and ignored the mess she created on the floor. She sat down in the wooden kitchen chair and lit another ciggerette.
"I have to get outta here!" Lucy forced herself to walk out the door. By the time she made it outside she saw Ike and Taylor walking out of Ike's pickup. Taylor and Ike were both laughing and talking together.
"Ike!" Lucy screamed with tears flowing down her face as she collapsed to the hard cement below her. She felt her knee's go numb and she couldn't move. As soon as Taylor and Ike saw this and quickly they ran to her. Lucy's head pounded and she sat up to face the two worried boys.
"What's wrong what's the matter?" Ike blurted out.
"My grand...my grandma is dead!" She screamed. Ike threw his arms around Lucy and felt Lucy cry into his shoulder.
"Oh Lucy I'm so sorry." he whispered in her ear and pulled her hair away from her damp eyes. Taylor stood by her with concern in his eyes.
"Why Ike why now? Why why......" Lucy stammered. Taylor quickly put his arm around Lucy too trying to comfort her any way he could.
"Shhh.... let it out. C'mon on let's go inside." Ike doing the best he could to calm Lucy down.
"I can't I don't want to. I just wanna stay here." Ike wouldn't accept this so he picked her off the ground and brought her into Lucy's living room and placed her on the couch. Taylor opened the door trying to help. He ran into the kitchen to call his mom to tell the terrible news and left Ike alone with Lucy..
"Ike why?" Lucy kept repeating.
"I don't know Lucy. It had to be her time."
"It's not fair." She cried a bit more in his arms.
"Ike don't leave me stay here with me. I don't wanna be alone. Taylor too." Taylor walked back into the living room carrying a small glass of water. He smiled when he heard Lucy's request.
"Hey Lucy I brought you some water." Taylor smiled down onto Lucy. Lucy tried to crack a smile the best she could. Taylor put the glass down and gave Lucy a hug and "I'm sorry Lucy. My mom said's she sorry." Lucy loosened her grip on Taylor's back as he pulled away.
"Thank you." Lucy said as she wiped her eyes.
"Mom is sending Zac over to try and cheer you up."
"That's sweet of her." She said half sarcastically and half grateful
Only a few seconds later did Zac come rushing in.
"Oh Lucy I'm so sorry!!!!" Zac said in an unusually serious tone. He ran over to Lucy and gave her hug. Which caused Lucy to cry somemore but only a few tears.
"Oh Zac thank you. Will you three stay here with me tonight I couldn't bare it if I were alone." she requested once more.
"Of course we can stay. I asked Ma before I left and she said it was no problem. She's getting some things ready for us and bringing it over."
"I've said it before and I'll say it again" Lucy smiled
"what?" Ike asked curiously
"You guys are too nice to me."
"We'd do anything for you Lucy. Hey is that a smile?" asked Taylor
"Hey I think it's time for a GROUP HUG!!!!!" Zac said with big smile on his face.
"Oh no." But before she could argue the three boys put their arms around her. Except Zac had to make grunting bear sounds causing Lucy to laugh.
"Hey you guys are great." Lucy looked into Ike's eyes and said "Wow, this has been both the greatest and worst day of my life."
"Oh Lucy" Ike replied and gave her a quick kiss and her lips and again another hug. This confused Zac incredibly.
"Hey Hey HEY! What's going on here?" Zac sounded very upset
"Oh I think we should tell him Ike." Taylor crossed his arms and sat next to Zac. He smiled at Zac who seemed to be very upset.
"Let me. Hey Zac Lucy's my girlfriend now okie?" Ike grinned as he held LUcy.
"OH just use the direct approach why don'tcha?"Zac said
"I know it worked with Lucy!"
"Hey Romeo you weren't that direct."
"Shhhsh!" Ike replied with his killer smile
Lucy just smiled then the doorbell rang once more. Hyper once again Zac ran to the door while screaming "I'll get it! Hey ma come in," Diana walked in with about two or three bags worth of stuff. She put them down and walked over to Lucy .
"I sorry dear," She opened her arms to Lucy. She gently rubbed her back trying to soothe her.
"Thank you." Mrs. Hanson started asking about the funeral and the wake.
"Are you going back to CT?" she inquired.
"OH yea, my mom said there's a ticket waiting for me at the airport I'm leaving tomorrow night and will be back Monday morning which I need to ask a favor."
Ike cut her off and said "Of course we can drive you!"
"Thanks." Lucy gave her first smile since the morning.
"Well dear I should go back to the youngin's. Tell your parents I hope everything works out."
